CENTRAL, S.C. - The Anderson baseball team dropped a 5-2 nonconference decision to Southern Wesleyan, Tuesday night at Dr. Conner Field
Southern Wesleyan improved to 14-30 with its' sixth consecutive win past the Trojans, including four victories this season, while Anderson slipped to 19-27 with its fourth setback in six decisions.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sophomore Tyler Miller collected two of the Trojans' hits on the
night, with a single and a ninth-inning double, with freshman
Carson Barrett and sophomore Zach McIlroy each going 1-for-3.
Senior LJ Newman added an RBI-double.
Junior Thomas Smith (3-5) took the loss after surrendering four runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief. The right-hander struck out one Warrior.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Miller opened the game with a single back up the middle, with
Xavier Peralta following with a single to left field. Two batters
later, Newman laced a ground-rule double to score Miller with the
game's first run and Peralta crossed the plate on Barret's
sacrifice fly to center.
But Peralta's run proved to be the Trojans' final score of the night, as Southern Wesleyan hurler Andrew Howard limited AU to four hits over the remaining eight innings.
The Warriors cut Anderson's lead in half with a solo run in the third inning and took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning. SWU added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap the scoring.
STAT OF THE NIGHT
Howard did not issue a walk while facing 33 Trojan batters over the
course of the complete-game effort.

crucial three-game series at Lenoir-Rhyne this weekend. The Trojans
and Bears are tied for ninth, two games out of eighth place in the
battle for a seed in next week's conference tournament.
