CENTRAL, S.C. - Despite matching Southern Wesleyan in hits through seven innings, the Anderson baseball team wrapped up its brief two-game road swing with a 9-0 loss to the Warriors, Wednesday night at Dr. Conner Field
Anderson fell to 13-21 on the season, while Southern Wesleyan moved to 11-21.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sophomore Tyler Miller was 2-for-3 on the night with a double and a
single, while Michael Rochester added a pair of singles and was hit
by a pitch. The freshman duo of Carson Barrett and Bryce Patrick
was each 2-for-4, with two singles apiece.
Freshman hurler Jonah Wylie slipped to 0-3 on the season after surrendering six runs on two hits, while walking three and striking out three in an inning of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Wesleyan took advantage of a pair of walks, a single and a
double in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 4-0
lead.
The Warriors capitalized on a pair of miscues by the Trojan defense to plate three more runs in the second inning and built a 7-0 advantage.
Anderson threatened when Barrett and Rochester notched back-to-back one-out singles in the top of the fourth, but the Black and Gold was unable break through on the scoreboard.
SWU added another run on a bases-loaded single to center with
one out in the bottom of the fourth, but reliever Colby Tollison
induced an inning-ending double play to work out of the jam.
The Trojans countered by threatening again to get on the scoreboard
in the top of the fifth inning when Patrick and junior Stephen
McKnight led off the frame with back-to-back singles and Miller was
hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. But AU came up empty
at the plate and the Warriors maintained their eight-run
cushion.
Neither team managed to push a run across in the fifth, sixth or seventh innings, while SWU closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth.
STAT OF THE NIGHT
The two teams combined to strand 19 runners on base.
