Volleyball Camp Sets Krieger-Era Records

ANDERSON, S.C. – With the summer quickly coming to a close, Anderson University volleyball coach Gene Krieger's recent weekend volleyball camp saw a record number of participants, with nearly 100 campers ranging from elementary to high school age taking to the courts.

Members of the Anderson volleyball squad, along with area coaches Brent Atkins, Ben Morgan and Hernan Vera joined Krieger and new assistant AU coach Erika Lightsey for the most successful camp during his tenure.

Among the 97 total campers, 36 elementary and middle school youth were first-time attendees in the age groups, with 17 campers arranging an AU campus tour prior to the start of the sessions.

Sunday morning's camp devotionals, led by a trio of Trojan teammates, continued the program's mantra of God first, family second, school third and volleyball fourth.

One of the highlights for the 60-plus high school participants came after dinner, with the evening 6-on-6 games being played with a full complement of parents and fans viewing from the upstairs seating area.

"We are amazed and blessed that the camp doubled in participants over last year" said Krieger. "The appeal of the university is reaching across the state and into multiple regions. We also want to thank Bobby Beville for use of the Anderson Recreation Center for aspects of the camp as well."
