Malone and Morris Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS - On the heels of impressive performances throughout the season, sophomore Sherin Malone and junior D'Yandra Morris have been named
All-Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field season.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season, and student-athletes must come from USTFCCCA member institutions.

The women saw 651 separate competitors accumulate 931 total honors.

At the team level, Southern Connecticut led the way on the women's side with 26 total honors. NCAA Championships host Grand Valley State with 24 and New Mexico Highlands with 22 were the next teams on the list, just ahead of defending national champion Lincoln (Mo.) with 20.

The Trojan duo captured All-Region honors for the second time in as many years, with Malone capturing first place in the 100 meter hurdles at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships with a time of 14.72 seconds and seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:33.07.

The native of Spartanburg, S.C., also claimed 12th in the shot put at the SAC Championships with a distance of 9.73 meters. Malone also took home fourth place in the 100 meter hurdles at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational in a time of 15.89 and garnered second place in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:07.78, while finishing 33rd in the shot put with a distance of 9.92 meters.

Earlier in the outdoor season, Malone crossed the line in 15.25 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles to claim second place at the Emory Invitational after beginning the season by taking 22nd place in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.86 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.

Morris won the women's shot put at the SAC Championships with a toss of 12.26 meters, while finishing 12th in the discus throw with a distance of 27.39 meters.
She claimed eighth in the shot put (12.17 meters) in the Bluegrass State, while taking home 15th with a toss of 36.20 meters in the hammer throw.

A native of Seneca, S.C., Morris claimed fifth in the shot put at the Emory Invitational with a toss of 11.25 meters, while opening the outdoor season by claiming 27th place in the shot put with a distance of 10.55 meters at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. She took home 20th place in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 34.54.
