Maya Learmonth and Alexandre Cox-Ashwood Named Jimmy John’s Female and Male Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University volleyball junior Maya Learmonth and men's soccer's Alexandre Cox-Ashwood have been named the Jimmy John's Female and Male Athletes of the Week.

Cox-Ashwood, a senior from France, scored his second goal of the season in last week's win over Newberry. For the season, he is tied for second on the team with two goals and two assists. In the South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal win over Mars Hill, Cox-Ashwoood assisted on two goals to help lead the Trojans to an 8-0 victory.

Learmonth knocked down 34 kills (4.25/set) on the strength of a .256 attacking percentage to help lead the Trojans to their seventh straight win, including a perfect 2-0 record last week.

The Pflugerville, Texas native had reached double-figure kills in six straight matches after posting 15 kills and four digs in the Trojans' four-set win at Lincoln Memorial and followed up by leading all players with a season-high 19 kills in AU's road win at Carson-Newman on Saturday.

Learmonth ranks eighth in the SAC in kills per set.

The third-seeded men's soccer team is preparing for its SAC Tournament Semifinal match at No. 2 seed Lenoir-Rhyne, which is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.

The No. 2 seeded volleyball squad is slated to host third-seeded Carson-Newman, in the SAC Volleyball Spring Tournament Semifinals, Thursday night at the Abney Athletic Center. First-serve vs. the Eagles is set for 7 p.m.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
