Men's Soccer Ranked 22nd in United Soccer Coaches National Poll

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team has been ranked 22nd in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II poll released on Tuesday (Mar. 23).

"It's always great to get recognition for the work the team is putting in," said coach Michael Zion. "We know that we have to keep working and improving, there are a lot of great teams in the SAC and we have some tough opponents coming up."

On Wednesday, Gal Elyashiv, a senior from Rishon LeZion, Israel, was named the SAC Astroturf Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. He helped lead the Trojans to their third consecutive shutout victory on Thursday (Mar. 18) in a 1-0 win over Queens. Gal made seven saves in the match, as he is now fourth in the SAC this season with 18. He is also second in save percentage at .857.

"It's great to see Gal Elyashiv get recognition for the hard work he has put in," said coach Michael Zion. "We are playing well defensively as a team and Gal is a big contributor to that."

Anderson is currently getting ready to host the Limestone Saints tomorrow night for senior day. In the previous match, the Trojans came away with a 2-0 victory thanks to two goals from Agustin Ortiz. In the last home match, Anderson defeated Newberry 1-0 on Mar. 4, which was the beginning of their three consecutive shutout victories.

Limestone comes into the match with a 2-1 record and six total points. They are coming off a thrilling 4-3 overtime win against Queens on Monday (Mar. 22), as four different players scored for the Saints. On Friday (Mar. 19), Limestone defeated Newberry 1-0.

The Trojans currently lead their pod with a 3-1 record and a total of 9 points. Anderson split the season series with Queens and will be looking to complete the sweep of Limestone and Newberry in their final two regular season games.

The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday (Mar. 25) as they play host to the Limestone Saints for senior day. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., with live coverage available at www.autrojans.com.
