Women’s Golf to Wrap up Regular Season in Tennessee

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's golf team is set to close out its regular-season slate at Tusculum's 18th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational, this Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.

This year's tournament field consists of teams and players representing 17 institutions from five different states including Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. Nine schools represented will be competing in next month's South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Joining Tusculum at this year's McAmis Memorial are fellow SAC members Anderson University, Brevard College, Carson-Newman University, Catawba College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Lincoln Memorial University, Newberry College and Wingate University.

The field also includes NCAA Division II squads Converse College, King University, Lander University, Pfeiffer University, Young Harris College and the University of Virginia's College at Wise. Spartanburg Methodist College and USC Beaufort round out the 17-team tournament field.

Tusculum has won its spring home tournament five times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2012, 2013), including two of the last three years. Lincoln Memorial won the 2001 event, while Lenoir-Rhyne was the 2002 champion.

Led by then-senior Katie Eskew's 5-over-par 77, the Trojans finished in a three-way tie for seventh at last year's rain-shortened event.

Wingate junior Caitlin Starrs is the defending champion, as she carded a one-under par 71 in last year's event which was shortened to 18 holes due to weather. Starrs is looking to become only the second repeat medalist in the history of the tournament. Former Wingate standout Cris Mechereffe claimed medalist honors in 2000 and again in 2001.

Eskew's effort gave her a share of ninth place on the day, while Sarah Timms shared 28th after a 9-over-par 81. Garyt Hamilton notched a share of 44th after carding an 84, while Braiden Furtick fired an 85 and finished in a tie for 50th. Natalie Feder posted an 87 and closed the afternoon in a tie for 56th.

The opening round starts Monday morning at 11 a.m. on the 5,832-yard, par 72 layout. Admission to the two-day, 36-hole tournament is free and open to the public.
