Women’s Golf Tied for 14th Following Day One of Converse Spring Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Paced by junior Garyt Hamilton's 12-over-par 84, the Anderson women's golf team finds itself tied for 14th place following opening-round action at the Converse Spring Invitational, hosted by the Valkyries on Monday at the par-72, 5732-yard Carolina Country Club layout.

King University leads the two-day tourney after posting an opening round 314, while Mount Olive (323) is nine shots further back. Converse (326) is in third place, one shot ahead of Queens, which notched a first-round 327. Catawba (330) and Pfeiffer (330) are tied for fifth, with Erskine tied for seventh along with Tusculum after both posted 331s for the first round.

Belmont Abbey (345) was 14 strokes further back, while Emmanuel (349), Mars Hill (358), Converse B (359), Coker (362), Anderson (368), Lenoir-Rhyne (368) and Spartanburg Methodist (369) rounded out the 16-team field.

King's Nicola Robertson fired an opening-round 3-over-par 75 and leads the individual medalist chase by one shot over Queens' Grace Glaze and King's Elizabeth Swallow, who each carded 76s on the day.

Hamilton's first-round effort has the Seneca, S.C. native in a tie for 29th, while junior Braiden Furtick posted an opening-round 92 and shares 58th. Senior Natalie Feder (94) is tied for 66th, with senior Sarah Timms carding a 98 to hold the 70th spot. Junior Arista Setro rounded out the Trojan contingent with a 99 and is in a tie for 71st.

Weather permitting, the final round of the two-day event will be played Tuesday.
