Lincoln Memorial Leads after Two Rounds of Food Lion SAC Championship

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Lincoln Memorial University extended its lead to 27 shots over Wingate University after the second round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Sevierville Golf Club on Monday.

The Railsplitters, who led the Bulldogs by 14 shots after shooting 287 in the opening round, backed up that score with a 289 on Tuesday to nearly double their lead heading into Tuesday's final round. Lincoln Memorial is at even-par 576 through two rounds, followed by Wingate (603), Carson-Newman (610), Lenoir-Rhyne (611) and Tusculum (615) in fifth place.

Individual leader Connor Froning, who tied the conference tournament record with a 64 on Sunday, shot even-par 72 on Monday but extended his lead to eight shots over teammates Jamie Chapman and Rand Wasson, both at even-par 144 through 36 holes. At 136 through two rounds, Froning is within range of the tournament record score of 208 set by Ben Lown of Newberry in 2008.

Wasson's round of 70 was the low score of the day, as just three players broke par for the second day in a row. Chandler Gruenemeier of Newberry fired a one-under-par 71 and moved into a tie for fourth place with Wingate's Tyler Stone, while Gavin Hay of Carson-Newman vaulted into a tie for 15th in the individual standings with a 71 on Monday.

Gruenemeier and Stone are tied for fourth at 146, followed by John White of Lenoir-Rhyne and Kim Koivu of Brevard in a tie for sixth at 147. Jonathan Kim-Moss of Carson-Newman is in sole possession of eighth place with a score of 148, while four players share ninth place at 150: Jon Weiss of Newberry, Rafael Jackson of Carson-Newman, Derek Cantrell of Tusculum and Brian Denton of Wingate.

The rest of the team standings have Brevard in sixth at 620, followed by Newberry at 626, Catawba at 637, Anderson at 640 and Mars Hill at 658.

The Trojans' Arran Setro (76-79=155) is tied for 18th, while Sean Shelton (76-80=156) shares the 20th spot. John Moore is 31st after a two-day total 159, while Payden Parrish (88-83=171) is 44th and Rob Warren (92-82=174) is 47th.

Tuesday's third and final round begins at 8:30 a.m. at the River Course at the Sevierville Golf Club. Lincoln Memorial is seeking its second SAC title since joining the league, with the other coming in 2010.
