Simpson Named Second-Team All-Southeast Region

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -After becoming the second player in program history to earn South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year honors, Anderson University women's basketball senior guard Sierra Simpson was listed on the Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women's Basketball All-Southeast Region Second Team, voted on by the region's sports information directors and announced by regional director on Thursday.

The honor is Simpson's fourth postseason honor of the season, as the Simpsonville, S.C. native captured the player of the year award and landed on the All-SAC First Team prior to the start of the SAC Tournament. After Simpson led the Trojans to the SAC Tournament title game for the second time in three seasons, the guard was named to the All-Tournament Team for the first time in her career.

The regional award is Simpson's first of her career, as she becomes the first player to land on a regional team since 2013 SAC Player of the Year Alissa Diaz earned a spot on the first team. Following Diaz's all-region honor, the guard eventually landed on the Honorable Mention All-America list, as she became the first Trojan to earn All-America status.

Simpson currently leads the SAC in minutes played with 1,050 and in assists with 138. Last Saturday, Simpson became the 11th Trojan to score 1,000 points for a career after she scored 15 points in a SAC Tournament semifinal victory over fourth-seeded Catawba.

The senior is also 14th in the conference in total rebounds with 173, despite her 5-foot-6 frame, and also ranks second in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 2.0 mark.

Simpson and rest of the Trojans look to continue their season on Friday when they square off with sixth-seeded Newberry for the fourth time this season in a rematch of the SAC Tournament championship. Tip-off from the Timken Center in Gaffney is slated for noon.
