Women’s Hoops Slotted Third in Weekly Southeast Region Media Poll

ANDERSON, S.C. - After wrapping up the South Atlantic Conference regular-season title on Saturday with its 20-point victory over Queens, Anderson University women's basketball remained in the third position in the weekly Southeast Region Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, announced by the committee on Monday.

The Trojans enter the SAC Tournament, which opens on Wednesday, with a 22-3 overall record after finishing its conference slate with a 20-2 mark. The 20 wins within the conference marks the first time in conference history a women's basketball team has won 20 conference games, while the .909 winning percentage in the highest since Tusculum's 2007-08 team posted a .929 league winning percentage.

On Tuesday, Anderson will learn its national ranking after being slotted No. 22 in the last two national media polls. Earlier this season, the Trojans cracked the national poll for the first time in program history, landing at the No. 21 spot.

AU remains the highest rated SAC school, as the Trojans were joined by Wingate in the No. 4 position, Catawba, which tied for seventh and Newberry which placed ninth. The Lady Indians were the only team in this week's rankings that was not rated last Monday.

Limestone and Columbus State continue to hold the top two positions, respectively, as both squads boast identical 28-1 overall records. With both Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference Tournaments underway, both teams have advanced to the semifinals in their respective brackets.

North Georgia grabbed the No. 5 spot following the Bulldogs, while Lander landed sixth following its home setback to Georgia College on Saturday. Belmont Abbey drew even with Catawba for seventh, while King rounded out the top-10, just behind Newberry in ninth.

Earning the top seed in the annual SAC Tournament, Anderson returns to action on Wednesday when it opens its postseason with eight-seeded Mars Hill at the Abney Athletic Center. Tip-off with the Lions is scheduled for 7 p.m.
