Spain Vaughan Named SAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Spain Vaughan of the Anderson University men's cross country team has been named the South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

Vaughan, a sophomore from Greer, S.C., has impressed so far in his second campaign in the black and gold. In the last two meets, Spain has set the Anderson school record in the 8,000m on consecutive occasions. At the Queen City Invite (Sept. 23), Vaughan finished fourth place with a time of 24:37. He topped that mark this weekend at the Royals XC Challenge to break his own record at a pace of 24:34.1. The time placed him third individually in the meet and was the best time of the southeast region for the weekend.

"Spain has dedicated all year to push himself to see how fast he can truly go," said coach Kevin Eagle. "This accomplishment just shows how far he has come in just a short amount of time. Spain has not even come close to his ceiling just yet!"

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 22) as they travel to Huntsville, Alabama for the D-II Festival Year Showcase. Results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
