Elliot Dotson Sets Anderson 8K School Record at UAH Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Anderson University men's cross country team ran well at the 2022 University of Alabama Huntsville Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 22), placing ninth with a total of 282 points.

The men's side included four teams ranked in the USTFCCCA Southeast Regional poll in Wingate (No.1 regionally, No.4 nationally), Anderson (No.4), UNC-Pembroke (No.8), and Lincoln Memorial (No.10).

Elliot Dotson headlined the morning for the Trojans, finishing 24th in a time of 24:09.20 to set a new Anderson school record in the 8,000m, previously broken by teammate Spain Vaughan at the Royals Challenge earlier in the season (24:34.1). However, Vaughan was close behind Dotson at a pace of 24:11 for 27th place, which that mark also beat the previous record held by Vaughan.

Daniel Similton (25:04.80) and Will Oglesby (25:06.10) each finished inside the top-100 as both upperclassmen ran well for the Trojans. Ty Nelson was step-by-step with Oglesby, coming right behind at 25:09.40. Jonathan Roberts (25:35.30), Bryson Mace (25:45.10), and Michael Burgess (25:45.80) ran as a pack to place 150th, 164th, and 167th, respectively.

Thomas Sutcliffe (26:08.70), Adam Trusty (26:39.40), and David Williams (26:58.30) also ran for the Trojans.

"I am really proud about how the men's team battled against some of the best teams in the NCAA," said coach Kevin Eagle. "They all moved up well throughout the race and continually passed people to place 10th overall as a team. Elliot had a breakout race and was able to break the 8,000m school record by 25 seconds. We had eight total personal records on the day for the men, so I cannot be prouder on how this team looks going into the championship portion of our season!"

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Nov.5) as they travel to Salisbury, N.C. for the SAC Championships. More information will be found at autrojans.com.
