Trojan Track and Field Reaps Regional Accolades

ANDERSON, S.C. - A total of 14 Anderson University track and field athletes have combined to garner 28 All-Southeast Region accolades, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their outstanding performances in 2011.

The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three earned the All-Region distinction for the 2011 outdoor season.

From the South Atlantic Conference, Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill joined the Trojans with multiple award winners. The Eagles had six athletes collect eight honors, while LRU saw 11 athletes earn 13 accolades and seven Lions' athletes posted eight awards as well.

Junior standouts Lauren Sloan and Whitney Bishoff paced the Trojan women's squad by earning four awards each, while senior Katelyn Rodgers and sophomore Krishaun Hall garnered three apiece. Freshmen Lydia Davis and Elizabeth Fastzkie earned honors for the 800 meter/1500 meter runs and the high jump, respectively, and Re'Jeania Evans, Sarah Solsbee and Kourtney Squires picked up honors for the 4x100m relay.

On the AU men's side, sophomore Zach Hart collected honors for three events, while fellow sophomore Will Byars earned a pair of accolades. Deniz Hay (1500 meter),
Terrence Jefferson (200m dash) and Matt Shaffer (800m run) each garnered recognition.

Overall, a total of 1,250 athletes received 1,838 all-region nods in the inaugural outdoor class.
