Hart Competes at Demon Deacon Combined Events Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind a school-record time in the 110 meter hurdles, Anderson University sophomore Zach Hart was 15th in the decathlon before being sidelined with a slight injury at the 2011 Deacon Combined Events Classic, hosted by Wake Forest Tuesday and Wednesday at Kentner Stadium.

Over 40 athletes, both collegiate and post-graduate, took part in either the heptathlon or the decathlon, with competition getting underway on Tuesday beginning with the men's 100-meter dash.

In addition to Hart's record-setting pace in the 110m hurdles, he notched an impressive eighth-place spot in the discus throw with a distance of 33.41 meters. He placed 13th in the opening event - the 100 meter dash - crossing the line in 11:57, then finished 20th in the long jump at 6.16 meters.

Hart placed 15th in the shot put at 10.85 meters and followed up with a height of 1.74 meters for a 17th-place finish in the high jump. The Mt. Pleasant, S.C., native earned 19th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.80, then posted his school-record time of 17.25 in the 110 hurdles to claim 18th. He notched eighth in the discus toss before withdrawing from the competition.

He will join six teammates at Clemson's Tiger Qualifier on Friday and Saturday for the Trojans' final event before the NCAA Championships, May 26-28.
