ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson College men's tennis team has received a bid to one of two Mid-Atlantic Regional tournaments. The Trojans, 15-4 this spring and 16-4 overall, will participate in the regional at the University of South Carolina Spartanburg May 3-4. The 17th-ranked Trojans will be participating in their fourth consecutive NCAA regional tournament, and they have made two trips to the nationals -- 2000 and 2001. The regional at USCS will have one of the strongest fields in the tournament -- eighth-ranked USCS (19-1), 12th-ranked Lander University (13-4), 17th-ranked Anderson and Francis Marion (13-4). No other regional has four top-20 teams. On Saturday, May 3, Lander will play Anderson at 10 a.m., and Francis Marion will face USCS at 2 p.m. The two winners will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the regional title and the right to advance to National Championship round of Sweet Sixteen in Altamonte Springs, Fla., May 8-11. Anderson played two of three teams in the regional field during the 2003 spring season. The Trojans lost to USCS 6-3 on Mar. 12 and Lander 5-4 on Mar. 26. Both of those matches were played at Anderson. The Trojans were scheduled to play Francis Marion, but the match was rained out. Anderson head coach Brett Simpson is a member of the Lander University Hall of Fame and was a part of Lander's remarkable run of eight straight national titles between 1993 and 2000. As AC's head coach, Simpson is 88-33 overall and 46-3 in the CVAC. He has led the Trojans to back-to-back CVAC regular-season titles.
