PONTE VERDE, Fla. -- The Anderson men's golf team trimmed five strokes off its first-round score to finish tied for 13th at the Queens Invitational hosted by Queens University of Charlotte at the par-72, 6,848 yard TPC Sawgrass course Tuesday afternoon. Barton College (576) held off a strong second round by Florida Southern (581) to win the event, finishing the two-round tournament with an even score. Bringing home the third place trophy was Flagler College with a score of 586 (293-293). Anderson (609) wrapped up the tourney tied with Armstrong Atlantic, just two strokes behind Carson-Newman (607), three strokes behind St. Andrews (606) and only trailed Georgia Southwestern by five at the conclusion. Sophomore John Moore lead AU's improvement, shaving nine strokes off his opening round to move from a share of 57th to a tie for 19th with teammate Ryan Booth, as both carded a two-day total of 147. Senior Kenny Shockley posted a second-round 74, cutting five strokes off his first-round tally and finished with a share of 45th. Sophomore Chase Epting notched a two-day 18-over to hold 83rd, while fellow sophomore Trey Gibbs (88-85=173) finished the afternoon in 88th. The field of 89 included 17 teams, three ranked in DII top 25 (Florida Southern, No. 6, Lander, No. 21, and Belmont Abbey, No. 22), and five individuals. The Trojans wrap up their Fall slate at the Southeastern Regional Preview at Tanglewood Country Club in Clemmons, N.C., Oct. 18-20. Fin.
