Mens Golf Finishes Third at Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Two impressive top-four individual performances propelled the Anderson mens golf team into a tie for third on the final day of the Anderson University Invitational at Cobbs Glen Country Club in Anderson on Tuesday. Ryan Booth capped off an outstanding two days with a final round one-under 71 to finish the tournament at even-par 144 (73-71) and tied with North Greenville's Brad Caldwell at the top of the leaderboard. Caldwell edged Booth for individual medalist honors in a sudden-death playoff when he pared the 18th hole, while the AU sophomore bogeyed the hole. "I was very proud of Ryan [Booth]," Anderson head coach Danny Neal said. "He stayed calm and even though he didn't win, it was still great experience for him." The Black and Gold also got another solid round from John Moore, as the sophomore battled his way to a steady four-over par 146 (76-70) on Tuesday to finish the event alone in fourth, just two shots out of the lead. Senior Kenny Shockley (80-76=156) shaved four strokes off his first round score to wrap up the event tied for 24th, while sophomore Chase Epting carded a second-round 81 to finish at 164. Senior Charlie Bagwell knocked an impressive 12 strokes off his opening round score to finish in a tie for 40th. The Anderson men turned in the lowest team score among all competitors on the course, carding a 606 (+30) to move up three spots in the tournament's final round. The Trojans finished the tournament tied with North Greenville, just six shots behind second-place Limestone and a comfortable 10 strokes ahead of Tusculum. "I saw a lot of improvement today," Neal added. "We shot the low round [294] of the tournament and moved up three spots." Anderson will get on the course Friday and Saturday at the Honda of Columbia Fall Classic, hosted by Newberry at the Mid-Carolina Country Club in Prosperity, S.C. Fin.
