Men's Golf Team Drops To Fourth Place

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Anderson University men's golf team improved by nine shots in the second round but dropped from a tie for second into a tie for fourth in the standings at NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tuesday at the par-72, 7,100-yard Savannah Harbor Golf Club. After 36 holes, Anderson stands at 651 and tied for fourth place with Fayetteville State. Belmont Abbey is the leader with one round to play at 631. the Crusaders shot 317 in the second round. CVAC champion Barton shot 312 in the second round and moved into second place at 642. Pfeiffer put together Tuesday's best round -- 308 -- to move into third place at 646. Following Anderson and Fayetteville State are Coker 661, Mount Olive 665, and Limestone 674. Anderson was led in the second round by Adam Sheriff, who was 1-under through 13 holes after making four straight birdies to open the back nine. But Sheriff gave six shots back in the final five holes to finish at 77. Anderson's other second round scores were Kurt Owings 79, Ryan Sprayberry 82, and Clay Williamson 83. Nick Nosewicz of Barton shot even-par 72 in the second round, the lone even par round of the tournament through two rounds, to take the 36-hole lead at 8-over 152. Iain Hall of Queens University of Charlotte is one shot back at 153, Ian Milne of Fayetteville State and Kasey Timms of Belmont Abbey are tied for third at 154, and Joe Campbell of Belmont Abbey is alone in fifth at 155. Anderson has two players in the top 10. Sheriff is seventh at 158, and Owings is tied for eighth at 159. The winner of the Atlantic Regional, the winner of the Southeast Regional -- the other half of the Super Regional, and the next three lowest teams will advance to the NCAA Division II national tournament at Allendale, Mich., May 22-25.
