Wynne's Dramatic Eagle Clinches Two Titles

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Tusculum's Chris Wynne made an eagle on the 18th hole to win the individual title and give the Pioneers a two-shot victory in the team competition of the 2006 Anderson University Invitational Tuesday at the Brookstone Meadows Golf Club. Wynne recorded two eagles -- the par-5, 463-yard 12th and the par-5, 505-yard 18th -- on the back nine on his way to a final round of 69 and a 36-hole total of 7-under 137. He also birdied the par-5, 515-yard 14th hole. His 137 total ties the tournament record set by Tri-County Tech's Anthony Richey in '05. For the tournament, Wynne was 10 under on the par-5 holes. The Pioneers finished the event with a total of 578, two shots ahead of host Anderson. Tusculum's team total tied the tournament record set by Cape Fear in '05. The Trojans entered the second round on the par-72, 6,700-yard Brookstone layout with a one-shot lead but slumped to a 293 in the second round to finish at 580. Wingate (583) was third, and North Greenville was fourth (588). Nathan Irvin of North Greenville had a one-shot lead with one hole to play and had a chance to tie Wynne with a birdie, but he missed from 20 feet. The other members of the all-tournament team were Paul Butler of Limestone (139); and Adam Sheriff of Anderson (140) and Shane Dyer of Wingate (140). Nine players finished the tournament at even par 144 or lower. The group at 144 included Chase Carroll of Tusculum, John Kolls of St. Andrews Presbyterian, Johan Hagsund of Mount Olive, and Clay Williamson of Anderson. Men - Anderson Invitational Final Results
