Trojans Finish Fifth At BMW Collegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Anderson University men's golf team slumped to 316 in the second round of the BMW Collegiate to fall from first-round leader to fifth-place finisher Tuesday at the Verdae Greens Golf Club. Presbyterian fired a 296 to go with a first-round 297 to take the team title at 593. Barton (303-299) finished nine shots back in second place, while Clayton State (306-300) was third at 606. St. Andrews Presbyterian was fourth at 609. The Trojans led by two shots entering the final round after posting a 295 in Monday's first round. But the best individual score Anderson posted in the second round was a 5-over 77 by first-round leader Kurt Owings. Anderson's other three scores in the second round were Adam Sheriff 79, Clay Williamson 79, and Nick Kirby 81. Stephen Harrison of Barton (71-73) won the individual title by two shots over Tommy Bell of Mobile (74-72). Owings finished in a four-way tie for third at 3-over 147 with Jordan Holley of Cape Fear, Paul Butler of Limestone, and John Kolls of St. Andrews. Sheriff finished in a four-way tie for 13th place at 150. Anderson's next action is the CVAC Tournament Apr. 22-24 at Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. held the lead entering the final round of the BMW Collegiate at the Verdae Greens Golf Club.
