Belmont Abbey Men Lead After First Round

CLEMMONS, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey placed three players in the top 10 to take the lead after the first round of the CVAC Men's Tournament at the par-71, 6,800-yard Salem Glen Golf and Country Club Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders shot a 285 to seize a seven-shot lead over Barton and Pfeiffer, who are tied for second at 292. Anderson University is fourth at 296, Queens University of Charlotte is fifth at 299, Mount Olive is sixth at 304, Coker is seventh at 305, Limestone is eighth at 307, and St. Andrews Presbyterian is ninth at 308. Belmont Abbey was led by Kasey Timms and Connor Tomlinson, who both shot 2-under 69. Chris Baron (73) was the third Belmont Abbey player in the top 10. Sunday's best round was turned in by Pfeiffer's David Harris, who shot a sparkling 65. Two other players -- Kurt Owings of Anderson and Jonathan Burke of Barton -- shot 69. Scott Kegerreis of Queens was the sixth player under par with a 70. Following Owings for Anderson were: Adam Sheriff 73, Clay Williamson 77, and Nick Kirby 77.
