ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson junior Rakish Taylor posted his sixth double-double of the season, but the Trojan men's basketball dropped a 73-62 decision to visiting Wingate in South Atlantic Conference action, Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson slipped to 5-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play, with its third consecutive loss, while Wingate (12-4, 8-2 SAC) earned its fifth straight victory.

Taylor scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard Tre' Fields led the Trojan offensive attack with 15 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Randall Shaw added 13 points and a pair of steals, with freshman guard Shawn Benard coming off the bench to grab seven rebounds.

Junior guard Anthanee Doyle had 18 points to lead Wingate, with junior forward Isiah Cureton chipping in 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior guard Xavier Griffin contributed 12 points for the Bulldogs.

In a contest that featured 16 lead changes, Wingate snapped a 10-10 tie with a 13-4 run, with AU redshirt freshman Marquez Fisher slowing the outburst with a short jumper and following with a pair of blocked shots on the other end that ultimately led to a fastbreak layup by Benard. Fields followed with back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 10-0 surge by the Trojans that gave AU a 24-23 edge with 4:51 left in the first half - marking their first lead in nearly 10 minutes.

The lead exchanged hands three times before the Trojans closed the opening half with five straight points to claim a 31-27 advantage at intermission.

Taylor extended the Trojan lead to 37-30 on a traditional three-point play less than three minutes into the second half, but Wingate countered with a 16-5 outburst to reclaim a four-point lead with 14:14 on the clock. Shaw sparked the Trojans' final rally of the afternoon with a pair of free throws and capped an 11-3 surge with a layup, while Fields added five points as AU took a 53-49 lead midway through the second half.

But the Bulldogs answered with 10 straight points over the next 3:19 to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Trojans' Lex Davis halted the run with a 3-pointer from the right side and Fisher followed with a dunk to get the Black and Gold within 59-58 with less than six minutes to go, but AU was unable to overtake the Bulldogs, who sealed the win by going 7-of-8 from the line in the final minute.

Carson-Newman invades the Abney Center on Wednesday, as the Trojans close out their two-game homestand. Tip-off versus the Eagles is scheduled for 8 p.m.
