Men’s Basketball Team Among Those Recognized at Greenville Drive

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Anderson University men's basketball team was among several groups and individuals honored at Monday night's Greenville Drive baseball game at Fluor Field.

The Trojan hoops team, the first squad from the state of South Carolina since Lander in 1999 to claim a regional championship and just the second South Atlantic Conference school to earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, led the pregame Parade of Champions and was recognized during the game, while head coach Jason Taylor threw out the first pitch.

The night began with the parade around the field, with various youth recreational teams from Anderson County participating and was led by Westside High School's color guard and the Greenville Drive mascot Reedy Rip'it. Troy, AU's mascot, was on hand throughout the hot and humid night to help entertain the fans on hand.

Also honored were Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts; Miss Anderson County, Danessa Kilpatrick; James "Radio" Kennedy and former T.L. Hanna football head coach Harold Jones. Kennedy made the "play ball" call and Jones served as the honorary captain for the night.

Greenville posted a five-run sixth inning to collect a 6-5 victory over the Lexington Legends.
