ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson University junior guard Nick Trull has been named the men's basketball South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete as announced by the league office Friday morning.
Trull is a junior majoring in kinesiology and carries a 3.94 GPA. He averaged 10.2 points this season and was second on the team with 52 three-pointers and made better than 86 percent of his free throws. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Three team and is a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha national honor society. The Charlotte, N.C., native posted a season-high 27 points versus Catawba last Wednesday night and became just the sixth player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in the win at Carson-Newman.
Trull serves as the men's basketball representative on the Anderson Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteers his time as a coach for a youth basketball team. He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, participated in a clean-up campaign for Anderson public parks and serves a camp counselor at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church summer camp.
"Nick is the only player I've coached that I allowed out of study hall after his first semester," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "It was obvious he didn't need to spend time in study hall because he was going to put in the time without being forced. He is the most complete example of what we all want a student-athlete to be and hope they can become. He spends more time in the gym outside of practice than any player I've ever coached. He works tirelessly on his basketball skills, improving his condition level, and taking care of his body by eating right and getting proper rest. As hard as he works as a player, he spends an equal amount of time taking care of his studies and bettering himself as a student."
