Freshmen Baxter and Watkins Place Ninth and Twelfth at Lynchburg Open

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Anderson University freshman Jill Baxter narrowly missed setting a new overall school record in the heptathlon, while teammate Brooklyn Watkins posted a new school mark in the javelin throw event at the Lynchburg College Open Multi-Event, which was held Monday and Tuesday at Shellenberger Field.

Baxter, who finished ninth overall with 3,796 points nearly eclipsed AU's previous school-best mark of 3,960, while Watkins moved up twp spots to finish 12th overall with a strong showing in Tuesday's final three events.

Baxter tied for eighth in Monday's high jump with a height of 1.60 meters and saved her best finish for last, notching sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.77.
Watkins' toss of 37.14 meters in the javelin throw bested her own previous school-record distance of 36.28 meters, which was set just a month ago at the Duke Invitational.

Members of Anderson's track and field team will wrap up the regular season at Clemson's Tiger Qualifier on Friday and Saturday before competing at the NCAA D-II National Championships May 24-26.
