ATLANTA - The Anderson University women's track and field team finished seventh and the men's track and field team wrapped up the annual Emory Invitational in eighth Friday and Saturday at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
Senior Whitney Bishoff captured first place in the finals of the 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:39.87, while junior Amanda Johnson claimed 13th in the 5,000 meter run and sophomore Hannah Robles notched fifth in the 10,000 meter run.
Freshman Jill Baxter took second in the high jump with a height of 1.55 meters and fellow freshman Brooklyn Watkins placed ninth in the pole vault with a height of 2.88 meters.
Senior standout Lauren Sloan brought home second place with a distance of 12.55 meters in the shot put and placed ninth (34.20 meters) in the discus throw, with freshman Brooklyn Watt notching fourth in the shot put at 11.89 meters.
Sloan also notched a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.71 meters, while freshman Savanna Keese took fifth (36.59 meters) and Watt captured seventh with a distance of 34.79 meters.
Sloan wrapped up her all-around effort by finishing 12th in the javelin throw with a distance of 27.40 meters in the preliminaries.
On the men's side, Josh Butler brought home third place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.11, while placing seventh in the 200 meter dash in 23.44.
Sophomore Deniz Hay notched ninth in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.77, while junior Matt Shaffer took fifth in the 1,500 meter run in 3:59.74.
Sophomore Kyle Koby won the 5,000 meter B-section and placed 16th overall, while junior Zach Hart claimed second in the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters and freshman Jonathan Chapman placed third (6.65 meters) in the long jump. Hart also earned a second-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 53.97 meters,
Chapman finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.06 meters, with junior Will Byars taking seventh in the shot put at 13.23 meters. Byars also notched fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.40 meters.
Freshman Nathan Plank earned third in the shot put at 13.23 meters and 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.03 meters.
Along with host Emory and Anderson, the schools competing at the meet included Columbus State, Birmingham Southern, Cedarville, Oglethorpe, Alma, Concordia, Wisconsin Eau Clare, Clayton State, Hope, Wittenberg, Lee, Oglethorpe, Georgia Tech and Wilmington.
Anderson will get back in action Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays.
