Women’s Track and Field Captures Third at Southeast Regional Championship

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University women's track and field team captured third place at the Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Freshman Brooklyn Watkins took first in the pole vault with a height of 2.90 meters, while senior standout Lauren Sloan brought home first place in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.02 meters, while a pair of freshmen, Savanna Keese (39.32 meters) and Brooklyn Watt (36.82 meters) captured third and fourth, respectively.

Watkins won the women's javelin throw with a toss of 35.58 meters, while Sloan (30.14 meters) and freshman Jill Baxter (30.01 meters) finished fifth and sixth in the event.

The Wahalla, S.C., native also claimed first place in the discus throw, with a distance of 38.53 meters, while Sloan was just behind at 38.53 meters. Sloan finished second in the shot put with a toss of 12.37 meters, with Watt placing third at 12.11 meters, while Keese place sixth with a distance of 10.42 meters.

In the high jump, Baxter finished sixth with a height of 1.55m, with junior Joelle Purinton finishing sixth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 18:10. Senior Solesbee also crossed the line in sixth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.15.

Sophomore Hannah Robles won the 10,000 meter run in a time of 40:01.62, while senior Whitney Bishoff claimed first place in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 2:20.67. Madison Guest (2:25.11) and Sydney Hazel (2:27.35) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Bishoff notched second in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:44.04, while Hazel ran 4:56.46 to finish fifth and sophomore Rachel Westberry claimed 12th in a time of 5:11.50.

Juniors Amanda Johnson (ninth) and Emily Eckroth (13th) crossed the line in 20:31.97 and 20:48.85 in the 5,000 meter run, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Baxter, Bishoff, Hazel and Guest posted a third-place finish in a time of 4:13.81

Solesbee, Purinton, Watkins and Baxter teamed up to finish third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.12.
