Trojans End Regular Season Play With Road Victory At Newberry; 3-1

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (8-6-2, 6-3-2 SAC) ended its regular season play with a solid win over South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry (5-11-2, 2-7-2 SAC), 3-1, on Wednesday evening at Spero Financial Field.

"I am happy with our performance and how we moved the ball," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "The team showed good fight."

"It was good to get a solid win and momentum rolling going into the SAC Tournament," added Jacobs.

Anderson scored twice in the first half and added an insurance goal in the second half of play to defeat SAC opponent Newberry. Sophomore Catherine Nardella (Emma Deadwyler) found the back of the net in the 10th minute of action on a rebounded shot by Deadwyler while sophomore Camryn Woods added to the lead in the 21st minute of play on a ball assisted by senior Bethany Anderson.

Newberry cut the lead in half scoring late in the first half (41st minute), but the Black and Gold were able to create some distance on goal by graduate Leanna Guion, assisted by Woods. The Trojans outshot the Wolves 14(8)-8(5) and took four corner kicks to Newberry's three.

Senior AU keeper Victoria McGovern collected four saves in 90 minutes of action.

Anderson secured the fourth-seed prior to playing the match and will face the fifth-seeded Eagles of Carson-Newman at home on Saturday in the SAC quarterfinal match. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
