Trojans Drop Home Opener To Flagler; 4-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson (0-2) fell behind early after relinquishing three first half goals to drop its home opener, 4-1, versus nonconference opponent Flagler (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at Spero Financial Field.

"I'm proud of the response and turn around from Thursday," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "I don't feel the score accurately reflects the match."

"We are looking forward to another opportunity on Wednesday at home," added Jacobs.

Flagler jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after scoring goals in the 23rd, 25th and 27th minute of the match.

Anderson continued to fight resulting in a goal in the 50th minute of action. Senior Meggie Powell used a corner kick pass from senior Bethany Anderson to line up and blast a shot past the keeper to draw the Trojans closer, 3-1.

However, the Saints answered back in the 57th minute as Paige Churchill slipped through the defenders, receiving a perfect pass from Arianna Silva to set the final score at, 4-1.

The Black and Gold offense peppered the Saints goalie all afternoon taking 19 shots with nine coming on goal.

Anderson's Victoria McGovern recorded three saves in 45 minutes of play while Arriel Frey was credited with one save in the final 45 minutes of action.

Anderson remains home on Wednesday when it welcomes Emmanuel. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm at Spero Financial Field.
