Crusaders Second Half Attack Too Strong For Trojans; 4-2

Belmont, N.C. – Despite Anderson (0-1) grabbing the early momentum with a goal in the 11th minute of the match, Belmont Abbey (1-0) exploded for four goals in the second half to win its regular season home opener on Thursday evening at Alumni Field.

"Tough way to start the season," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We will get back to work and look forward to another opportunity on Saturday."

After receiving a pass from midfield, graduate transfer Leanna Guion punched it past the goalie to score her first goal as a Trojan. The 11th minute goal was the lone score of the half, 1-0.

Belmont Abbey regrouped during the 15-minute intermission and went into attack mode. The Crusaders built a, 3-1, cushion before the Black and Gold struck back to close the gap.

In the 74th minute, senior Emma Deadwyler put away a touch from Guion to draw the Trojans to within one. However, the Crusaders fourth goal in the 85th minute sealed the nonconference win for Belmont Abbey.

The Crusaders outshot the Trojans 26 (12) – 15 (7) and claimed the 9-2 corner kick advantage.

Anderson's senior keeper Victoria McGovern recorded eight saves on the evening.

The Trojans return to action on Saturday versus Flagler opening their regular season home schedule. Kick-off is slated for 1 pm at Spero Financial Field.
