Women’s Golf Set for SAC Championships

Women’s Golf Set for SAC Championships

ANDERSON, S.C.-- Anderson's women's golf team look to secure their third-straight South Atlantic Conference Championship this week. The tournament will take place at Salisbury Country Club in North Carolina and is scheduled for one 18-hole round each of Sunday to Tuesday (April 14-16), with tee times at 8:30 AM each day.

"The SAC is one of the strongest conferences in the country," said head coach Denton Moore. "It's got some of the best teams in the country, including Wingate and Limestone who are both Top-25 nationally-ranked programs."

Representing the Trojans will be 2023-24 All-Conference First-Team honorees Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, Va.) and McGaha, along with 2023-24 All-Conference Second-Team honorees Zoey Iglesias (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), Aly Francis (Stockbridge, Ga.) and Kennedy Gooding (Lexington, S.C.).

"We're really excited about this week going to work with the girls at Salisbury. It is a venue where we have some experience, and we won there earlier this year," said Moore. "We've spent the last week playing at Greenville Country Club and Curahee Club to get used to bent grass surfaces to hopefully help with the speed. Salisbury has great greens, and we are looking forward to having a great week putting."

The 2023-24 campaign for the Black and Gold includes three first-place finishes, four second-place finishes and an all-but-perfect SAC record, with only one conference loss on the season—one stroke behind Wingate at their home tournament.

"We have four main goals at the start of each year," said Moore, "and those are winning our opening event, winning the conference championship, advancing through regionals and winning the national championship. With this being one of our major four goals for the girls, Austin and I will be more locked in and focused this week."

The Trojans enter the tournament fresh off receiving the conference's two top awards for the season-- junior Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path, S.C.) was named this season's Player of the Year and Director of Golf and Women's Head Golf Coach, Denton Moore, took home his second-straight Coach of the Year title.

"If we go play golf the way we know how to play, then I feel really good about our chances of bring home a third-straight title. I'm extremely proud of the regular season we had, but now it's time to shift our focus to the post season and get locked in. Go Trojans!"
