LAKELAND, Fla. – The Anderson University women's golf team climbed up one spot to finish third behind freshman Jessica Rathbone's three-round, 1-under-par 215, with it taking a stellar 4-under-par final round for Barry's Alice Gotbring to outlast Rathbone by three strokes for individual medalist honors, Tuesday afternoon at Florida Southern's Lady Moc Classic.
The two-day, 54-hole tourney was hosted at the par 72, 6,085 yard Grasslands Country Club.
"The women's team third-place finish in this field is really impressive," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "I am very proud of the way they fought today. We got a few quality wins today over some very good teams. Jess was very solid today. We are looking forward to competing again next week in Charleston."
Lynn claimed the team title after edging Limestone by just one stroke, with the Trojans claiming third place. Host Florida Southern claimed fourth place, with Flagler four strokes further back in fifth place. Barry and Nova Southeastern finished sixth and seventh, respectively, while West Florida, Saint Leo, Eckerd and Palm Beach Atlantic wrapped up the 11-team field.
Gotbring (72-72-68=212), who was tied for fifth following Monday's action, equaled the tourney's low round with the 4-under effort, with Rathbone (71-71-73=215) just behind in second place. West Florida's Solange Gomez (72-68-77=217) who led the tournament heading into Tuesday, slipped into a tie for third, alongside Limestone's Pilar Martinez.
Junior Kerington Lamb moved up one spot to claim 20th place, while freshman Riley Mayhew moved up to finish in a three-way tie for 21st. Junior Victoria Hall shared 26th place and sophomore Emma Charles vaulted up four slots and finished in a tie for 38th place. Anna Freeman in a tie for 43rd place.
The Trojans are slated to compete in next week's Low Tide Intercollegiate, which will be held at the Dunes West Country club in Charleston.
