Women’s Golf Finishes Third at Flagler Fall Slam

ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Freshman Jessica Rathbone carded a two-day 9-over-par 153 to lead the Anderson University women's golf team to a third-place finish, Tuesday at Flagler's Fall Slam.

The Saints hosted the two-day, 36-hole tournament at the 6,062 yard, par-72 Marsh Creek Country Club.

"The team struggled a bit today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "Victoria and Jessica shot our lowest scores and frankly, we were fortunate to hold on to third place in this field - which is where we should have finished. It just would have been nice to play better and have finished closer to the leaders. Hopefully we can learn from this experience and perform better at Lander's event next week."

Fellow South Atlantic Conference-member Limestone upended defending champion Seminole State for the team title, with the Trojans taking home third place in the seven-team field. Flagler claimed fourth place, with UNC Pembroke finishing in fifth place. Lander finished sixth, with Eastern Florida State slipping from fourth place following Monday's opening round into seventh.

Seminole State's Minori Nagano outlasted Limestone's Stina Wikstrom in a five-hole playoff after the duo finished the 36-hole tourney deadlocked atop the individual leaderboard with identical even-par 144s. After parring the first four playoff holes, Nagano parred the par-4 No. 5, while Wikstrom bogeyed the hole. Limestone's Karla Lagerstrom finished alone in third place – four strokes behind the leaders.

Rathbone finished with a share of eighth place, with junior Victoria Hall notching her second straight 6-over-par 78 and claiming a share of 13th place. Freshman Riley Mayhew trimmed a pair of strokes off Monday's opening round and moved up to finish tied for 21st place, while junior Kerington Lamb finished in a tie for 21st after slicing four strokes off her first round effort. Senior Anna Freeman finished alone in 33rd place and sophomore Emma Charles finished in a tie for 36th after slashing four shots off Monday's first round.

Following a four-day layoff, the Trojans will get back on the links Sunday at Lander's Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational in McCormick, S.C.
