Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Anderson women's golf team wrapped up the Newberry Collegiate Invitational hosted on the par-74, 5,940-yard Moss Creek Golf Course in Hilton Head in ninth place Tuesday afternoon. Despite the weather, the Trojans slipped just two strokes from their first-round 357 to post a final-round 359 and finished five strokes behind Montevallo and 13 strokes in front of Lincoln Memorial. Host Newberry won the event with a two-round total 661, nine in front of runner-up Carson Newman. For the second consecutive day, senior Sophie Dembroski (85-86=171) paced the Trojans and finished in tie for 18th. Hayley Parks (85-87=172) wrapped up the event one stroke back, tied for 22nd. Sophomore Laura Buyers shaved four strokes off her opening round 95, carding a final-round 91 for a two-day total of 186 and finished in a tie for 49th. Fellow sophomore Kalyn Johnson (98-95=193) trimmed three strokes off yesterday's first round to finish in a tie for 62nd, while freshman Lyndsay Parks (92-103=195) slipped into 66th on the fnal day. Anderson will get back on the links, March 8-9, when the Trojans will compete in Pfeiffer University's tournament.
