ANDERSON, S.C. – No. 6 Anderson University women's basketball is set to square off against No.3 Wingate on Friday after receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament at host site Catawba's Julius W. Abernethy Physical Education Center (Goodman Arena).
The Trojans will meet No. 3 Wingate for just the third time this season both programs defending its home court during regular season play. Wingate leads the overall series record 22-15. Under head coach Jonathon Barbaree's leadership, Anderson has a regular season record of 9-7 and a post season record of 3-1(South Atlantic Conference Tournament) over the Bulldogs. This will be the first time the SAC rivals will meet in the NCAA's.
The 2023-24 NCAA invite is the 15th in Anderson's program history and the fifth in Barbaree's eight seasons. Over the past eight year's, the Black and Gold have won 20-plus games in six of those including a stellar 30-3 record in 2018-19. AU made the Sweet 16 for the first time in 2005 and then again in 2015, holding an overall NCAA record of 10-13.
Anderson matches up with the winner of No.7 Augusta/No. 2 Carson-Newman should it win its quarterfinal game. The Trojans' NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal game against Wingate is set for a 12 p.m. tip-off inside Goodman Arena.
