LAURINBURG, N.C. -- The Anderson University softball team scored 21 runs on 27 hits Sunday to complete a Conference Carolinas softball sweep of host St. Andrews College, winning the first game 11-5 and the second game 10-0 in just five innings. The Trojans (13-11 Overall, 3-1 Conference) played their first games in a long stretch of 19 days while the Knights were unable to gain momentum after winning their first league win on Saturday. Junior Lyndsey Huitt led the Trojans with six hits, four runs scored, and two RBI on the afternoon. Senior Meredith Knox added five hits while junior Kinsley Durham drove in four Anderson runs on three hits, making her RBI total 21 on the season. In the first match-up a crafty Anderson offense helped the Trojans jump out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. This early surge helped Anderson pull to an 11-5 win in the opener. Trojans' senior Kasey King drove in a game-high three runs on a trio of hits including an RBI-double in the first. The double gave King 22 RBI on the season. Junior starter Casey Deer tossed a complete-game victory, allowing five runs on 10 hits. Deer (5-4) fanned six as she moved over .500 on the season. St. Andrews closed the deficit to two, 6-4, with one run in the second and three more in the third before Anderson pulled away with one run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. Huitt proved to be a hard out in the leadoff spot for Anderson, going 3-for-5 with three singles and a walk. The Anderson native also scored twice, drove in one run, and swiped a stolen base. In the second game of the doubleheader senior starter Katie Van Gieson held St. Andrews to just three hits and received plenty of run support on a smooth slate that led to a 10-0 shutout in the nightcap. Van Gieson (3-1) retired 15-of-18 batters faced and had one strikeout in the five-inning complete game victory. For the second straight game, Anderson received hits from eight different Trojans. Senior Elisa Sebastyan drilled a three-run homer over the left field fence in the fifth to conclude the Trojans scoring plays, her fourth homer of the season. Huitt and Knox both had three hits for the Trojans. The Trojans will take the field again on Wednesday against conference rival Erskine in Due West. The first game of the doubleheader is set to get underway at 3 pm. Game 1 Box Score Game 2 Box Score Season Statistics
