St. Andrews Eliminates Anderson

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. -- St. Andrews Presbyterian jumped out to an 8-0 lead through five and a half innings then held on for an 8-4 victory over Anderson University in an elimination game in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Saturday night. The loss ends Anderson's season at 23-23. Trailing 8-0, Anderson got a two-run homer from Meredith Knox in the bottom of the sixth and then rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the seventh before the rally died. Earlier in the day, Anderson eliminated Lees-McRae, 8-2, and then bounced Barton from the tournament, 9-8 in 11 innings. Against Lees-McRae, Knox missed the cycle by a triple, Kayla Thrasher had a home run and a double, and Lora Daniel had a double and a single. In the extra-inning victory over Barton, Melissa Carmichael brought home the game-winning run with a single.
