Lady Trojans Sweep St. Augustine's College

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University used a combined shutout by Katie Van Gieson and Samantha Moorhead to beat St. Augustine's College 17-0 in the first game of the doubleheader at Smethers Field. Van Gieson allowed just one hit in four innings of work to earn the win, and Moorhead faced the minimum in her inning. The Lady Trojans pounded out 12 hits, including home runs by Lora Daniel and Kasey King, to score 17 runs in four innings. The Lady Trojans were led by Kayla Williams, who was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, and by Cameron White, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Domonique Brown had the lone hit for St. Augustine's College. In game two, Casey Deer, Donya Cobb and Alex Waldroup combined for a no-hitter as the Lady Trojans won 19-0. Anderson used two two-run home runs in the first by Williams and Daniel to take a 4-0 lead. The Lady Trojans would go on to add nine runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning. Deer earned the win in three innings of work and recorded seven strikeouts, while Alyce Wesley picked up her second loss of the day for St. Augustine's College. The Lady Trojans were led by Mickie Brown, who was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Daniel and Williams both went 1-for-3 with RBI and a two-run home run. The Lady Trojans improved to 2-6, while St. Augustine's College falls to 0-2.
