ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's tennis team fell, 9-0, to nationally eighth-ranked Columbus State in nonconference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Tennis Courts.
Anderson wrapped up its regular season with a record of 11-7, while Columbus State improved to 19-2 on the season.
In doubles action, the Cougar duo of Gordan Divljak and Quentin Rayniere improved to a perfect 20-0 by defeating Anderson's Daniel Gonzalez and Krystof Gulbinovic, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, sixth-ranked Martin Shishkov and Olivier Simonet downed Stan Atema and Deni Mehagic 8-4, while Adi Malicbegovic and Michael Trebuhov completed the doubles sweep by holding off Loic Ambroise and Trey Halbauer 8-5.
23rd-ranked Simonet defeated Atema 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles and at second singles, 48th -ranked Divljak improved to 15-5 as a singles player by notching a win past Gulbinovic 6-4, 7-5. Rayniere topped Mehagic, 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 4, Shishkov got past Gonzalez 6-1, 6-0.
Trebuhov remained perfect as a singles player by defeating Ambroise 6-0, 6-4 and at No. 6, Danilo Sardelli defeated Halbauer 7-6, 6-1.
The defending champion Trojans, who will be looking to earn their 13th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, open the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed on Friday in Rock Hill, S.C. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
