Men’s Tennis Earns Wins at USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals

SUMTER, S.C. - Anderson University's Abdoulaye Camara and Daniel Gonzalez each collected wins over the weekend at the 2011 USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals, hosted by Francis Marion at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

Camara advanced to the round of 32 with a three-set, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, win past Lenoir-Rhyne's Aroon Khatter Friday afternoon, but was eliminated when he dropped a hard-fought, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, setback to Lander's Samuel Poutignat on Sunday.

He teamed with junior Daniel Gonzalez on the doubles' side and the duo advanced to the semifinals of the event, while outlasting the Queens University tandem of Ignacio Casali Gustavo Munhoz, 8-6, on Friday. They followed up by knocking off Francis Marion's Alex Caspari and Gavison Davison, 9-8, Sunday afternoon.

Their bid to reach the championship contest was thwarted by the fourth-seeded duo of Matus Mydla and Pedro Scocuglia, 8-4, later Sunday evening.

Anderson will open its spring schedule on Thursday, Feb. 2, with a road contest at USC Upstate.
