Limestone Men Take First-Round Lead

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Limestone had two players break 70 to take a one-shot lead over Tusculum after the first round of the 2008 Anderson University Invitational Monday at the Brookstone Meadows Country Club. Brad Williams shot 5-under 67 and Luke McClellan shot 3-under 69 on the par-72, 6,685-yard Brookstone course to lead the Saints to a team score of 4-under 284. Tusculum, led by first-round leader Darren Christie (66), is one shot back at 285. Host Anderson University, led by Adam Sheriff with a 1-under 71, is nine shots back and in a tie for third with Mount Olive at 293. Eleven players shot par or better in the first round and nine players broke par. Christie made the turn 2-under. After a bogey in the par-4 10th hole, he played the last eight holes 5-under on his way to 66. He leads Williams by one shot and McClellan by three shots. Jonathan Greene of Mount Olive and Patrick Wilson of Erskine are four shots back at 70. Four players are tied at 71 -- Sheriff, Lawson George of Tusculum, Jack McClelland of St. Andrews Presbyterian, and Ben Sloan of Erskine. The second round will be played Tuesday morning.
