Tri-County Tech Leads After First Round

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Tri-County Technical College shot a 2-over 286 to take a one-shot lead over Cape Fear Community College after the first round of the Anderson College Men's Invitational Monday at the par-71 Brookstone Meadows Country Club. Tri-County's 286 is an Invitational record. The previous record round was 292 by Anderson in the second round of the 2002 Invitational at Brookstone. Tri-County was led by Anthony Richey, who shot a 2-under 69 and is tied for the first round lead with three other players Adam Sheriff of Anderson, Steven Cooley of Anderson B, and Matt Short of Lees-McRae. Following Richey for Tri-County were Chris McCallister 70, Drew Penley 73, and Zach Martin 74. Cape Fear was led by Jordan Holley with a 1-under 70. Host Anderson is third 10 shots behind Tri-County at 286. Following Sheriff for the Trojans were Clay Williamson 74, Kurt Owings 76, and Curtis Norwood 77. St. Andrews Presbyterian is fourth at 299, and Anderson B is fifth at 300. In the individual competition, 10 players are within four shots of the leaders. All four leaders were under par on the back nine. Richey shot a 31 on the back that featured five threes on his card. The second round will begin at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
