Trojans Unable to Overcome Saints' Hot Shooting

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Behind torrid long-range shooting, Limestone defeated Anderson, 95-84, in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Monday night at the Abney Athletic Center. Limestone (13-7, 9-6 Conference Carolinas) boosted its win streak to three games by connecting on 12-of-19 (63.2%) from beyond the arc, while Anderson dropped just its second home contest of the season, falling to 14-6 overall and 8-6 in the league. The last time the two teams met, the Saints used a rebounding advantage to hold off Anderson, 85-76, but tonight it was Limestone's long-range accuracy and the Saints used two early 3s to help jump out to an early 8-3 lead. After falling behind by six early, senior guard Tony Anderson scored six of the Trojans next eight points to knot the score at 16-16 with 14:02 left in the first half. Limestone countered to push ahead by five, but AU gained its first lead of the night when Trey Britton drove the right side of the lane and dropped in his first basket of the night. The Trojans edged out to their largest advantage of the game over the next four minutes as Trey Britton and guard Oskars Ernsteins combined to score 10 of AU's points for a 36-28 lead with 5:07 on the clock. The lead held over the remainder of the first half, with Anderson holding a 41-38 edge at the break. But the Saints chipped away at the deficit and eventually took the lead back with early in the second frame on Michael Barrett's 3-pointer and the Trojans were unable to catch Limestone. "Limestone is a great team," Anderson head coach Jason Taylor said. "They made the shots and we couldn't get anything going." Tony Anderson led three Trojans in double figures with 23 points, while Brandon Young added 19 and Kevis Cornwell chipped in 11 points. Anderson wraps up its three-game homestand when Coker College invades the Abney Center on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the first contest of a women's-men's doubleheader. Box Score
