ANDERSON, S.C. - Augusta State scored six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away from Anderson for a final 8-1 non-conference win past the Trojans on a cool and blustery Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
Augusta State improved to 19-23 while avenging a two-run setback at the hands of the Trojans in the first week of the season. Anderson (18-27) suffered its fourth consecutive setback.
Left-fielder Jonathan Romano ripped a run-scoring triple in the third inning and right-fielder Ryan Kirkland posted an eighth-inning single through the left side for AU's two hits on the night.
The Jaguars scored solo runs in the first and second frames to build a two-run cushion before adding two in the sixth and four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Left-handed senior hurler Ben Roberts (1-4) absorbed the loss, going six innings, while surrendering four runs off five hits. Senior right-hander Stephen Ramsey earned his first win of the season for Augusta State, giving up a run and one hit.
The Trojans play host to another team from the Peach Belt on
Wednesday, as AU welcomes North Georgia to Anderson Memorial
Stadium. First-pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
