ANDERSON, SC--Call it frustration, call it confidence, call it contention--whatever you call it, there is no doubt that something is different among the Anderson University baseball team of late; that was evidenced on Wednesday when the Trojans lined up and hit the ball again and again and again, enjoying back-to-back jacks by Matt Hill and Andrew Davis to get a 9-run, second inning started on their way to a 14-4, 7-inning victory over the Augusta State Jaguars, tallying their second straight win. Senior pitcher Luis Martinez was way better than he needed to be, as he went 6 innings, gave up 5 hits, and only allowed 1 earned run. Martinez was sending Jaguars batters away, striking out 6 on just 1 walk. At the plate the Trojans enjoyed servings from every Jaguar pitcher. Junior Carl Burrow was first, and he was saddled with the loss. The junior was chased after giving up 5 earned runs on 1 1/3 innings pitched leaving the other two outs in second to Adam Mathis, who gave up 4 earned runs himself. Among Trojans with homeruns, none was more significant, or impressive, than Blair Carson's 30th career bomb. The senior has gone without a long ball in his last 60 plate appearances-that is, since he hit his 29th at Memorial Stadium on March 18 after just having broken the all-time AU record on the road against Barton. AU put up 14 runs on just 16 hits. Other than Davis, Hill, and Carson, second baseman Ryan Saxon also homered---twice. Saxon was a perfect 5-5 in the game, rounding the bases 3 times while posting 4 RBI. Catcher Trent Still joined the ding party, as he put up a deep, right-center triple during the second inning rally; the sophomore went 2-2 with 2 runs and two RBI---the second Trojan to bat .1000 in the game. Peaking is important in any sport. In collegiate baseball it is dyer; with the Conference Carolinas tournament quickly approaching, and the Trojans with but one conference weekend series remaining against Coker, wins and momentum are vital.
