CARSON BREAKS ALL-TIME HR RECORD IN LOSS

WILSON, NC--The Trojans traveled to Wilson, NC on Saturday for a Sunday/Monday 3-game series against Conference Carolinas foe, Barton, but AU had to wait around for the rain to subside before finally squeezing in two 7 inning games today; AU fell in both of the shortened contests 4-3 and 11-8. The Trojans fall to 16-11 overall, and drop below .500 in the conference for the first time all year at 5-6. AU let a one run lead slip away in game 1, allowing 2 runs in bottom of the seventh, and giving the Bulldogs the win. Cory Welch pitched 2/3 and is credited with the loss. The Trojans' main offensive output came from Josh Grubbs (1-3, RBI), and from BJ Smith (2-4). Game two was quite bittersweet for senior first baseman, Blair Carson. Carson was 2-4, with 2 runs, and 2 RBI. But the most important of all his hits came in the bottom of the seventh. With his team down by 5 runs, the senior drove a 1-out fastball deep over the leftfield fence, driving in Matt Hill, but most importantly giving Carson his 28th career homerun, and breaking the all-time Trojan homerun record formerly held by Justin King. Carson's blast was not enough for the win. The Trojans stay on the road tomorrow, as they travel west, to Hickory, NC to take on the no. 29 nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.
