CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior Emily Eckroth led the Anderson women's cross country team to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships, hosted by Queens University Saturday morning at McAlpine Creek Park.
The Trojans were in familiar territory for the 6K event, as AU competed at the same park for both the UNC Charlotte Invitational in late September and at the Royal Challenge in mid-October.
Eckroth (24:18.9), a second-team all-conference honoree, paced the Trojans for the fifth time in six outings with a 48th-place finish. Senior Amanda Mahaffey, another second-team all-SAC selection, was just behind, crossing the line in 51st with a time of 24:25.4. Sophomore Sydney Hazel (24:46.3) finished 64th and sophomore Madison Guest earned 76th in a time of 25:10.1.
Freshman Devan Fisher notched 117th with a time of 26:26.2, while junior Rachel Westberry (27:00.0) rounded out the Trojan contingent in 133rd.
As the top three teams in the regional, Columbus State, Clayton State and UNC Pembroke each received automatic-qualifying bids to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, which will be held Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.
