Women’s Cross Country Finishes 18th at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior Emily Eckroth's season-best time of 19:55.78 paced the Anderson women's cross country team, as the Trojans claimed 18th at the 26th annual adidas/Winthrop Invitational Saturday morning, which was run on the Winthrop Farm Course.

Competing in a field of 31 teams, including 21 NCAA Division I squads, the Trojans finished third among D-II schools in the largest field for the 5K event since 2001.

Eckroth led the AU effort for the second consecutive outing, garnering 87th, while sophomore Sydney Hazel (20:51.26) shaved more than a minute off her pace from two weeks ago and crossed the line in 133rd. Junior Hannah Robles (20:51.50) also trimmed more than 66 seconds off her season-opening time at the Eye Opener to claim 134th.

Sophomore Madison Guest (21:10.15) was faster by an impressive 1:41 and crossed the line in 144th, with senior Amanda Mahaffey (22:02.91) cutting 39 seconds to finish 178th. Freshman Devan Fisher (22:20.14) finished 185th in her second outing in the Black and Gold, trimming more than two minutes off her first career effort at the Eye Opener.

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back on the trails at the UNC Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 28.
