Women’s Basketball Adds Three for 2011-12

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University head women's basketball coach Jim Brunelli has announced the addition of three high school standouts to the Trojans' program beginning with the 2011-12 campaign, inking Sierra Simpson out of Hillcrest High School and twin sisters Lauren and Lesley Woods from Raleigh, N.C. to national letters of intent.

Simpson, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Simpsonville, S.C., averaged 12 points, 5.8 assists and three rebounds as a senior for head coach Sarah Cybulski's Lady Rams last season. She scored more than 1,000 points during her career, reaching the milestone during her junior campaign, scoring an impressive 33 points in a game versus Rams' rival Mauldin High School.

She also earned second-team All-Region and All-County accolades following her junior season.

"Sierra is an exciting athlete to watch," said Brunelli. "She is a playmaker on both ends of the court. Sierra is what I call a scoring point guard. She will get everyone involved as well as score in a variety of ways."

Both Lauren and Lesley are 5-foot-8 guards who played their prep hoops for the Lighthouse Home School basketball team in Wake Forest, N.C. Lauren averaged 16 points, 3.9 rebounds, three assists and 2.7steals per game. Lesley added 13.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.8 steals per contest.

The twin sisters helped lead head coach Denise Driver's Lady Eagles to a perfect 22-0 record last season.

"Lauren and Lesley have the ability to play all three guard spots," Brunelli added. "Their versatility is much-needed and will be an immediate impact. The twins are able to shoot from beyond the arc as well as penetrate to the hoop. They are scrappy defenders and will fit well with our defensive system.

I'm very excited about our signees for the class of 2011. My assistant coach Mike Whitling and I feel we have addressed the needs for this team thus far. It is with great pleasure that we welcome these young ladies and their families into our Trojan family."
